• Zamakona Yards Pasaia finishes the repairs done in dry dock on the ship Juan de la Cosa

    Last August, the Social Marine Institute awarded our shipyard in Pasaia the repair, maintenance and commissioning of the ship Juan de la Cosa.

     

    This iconic hospital ship provides useful service to the Spanish fishing fleet, supplying health care “in situ” to anyone who requests it and is within the area it covers. In situations of high risk and severity, the vessel has the means to evacuate ill persons to land in the most suitable and quickest possible way. In addition to health activities, the vessel also provides emergency logistics support such as fishing net release service, dive service, electrical repairs etc.

     

    With a length of 75 meters and a width of 14 meters, it has a dedicated area for castaways, common areas, service areas and cabins for ill persons. It has an operating room with videoconferencing equipment for medical use, should assistance be need in surgical operations. It also has an analytical laboratory, a treatment room and an isolated x-ray room. It also has a heliport, speedboats and a rescue boat.

     

    During the month of October, all jobs to bring the vessel up to date were carried out during dry docking such as: boiler overhaul, preparation work, hull and deck blasting and painting, tank cleaning, pump-, davit-, propeller-, stabilizing fins repairs and maintenance and finally testing all equipment.

     

    Having terminated these jobs, Zamakona Yards has fulfilled its commitment to the Spanish Government and the Social Marine Institute and the seafarers. The ship is now ready and in perfect condition to serve the fishing fleet in the North Atlantic during the bonito, the anchovies and the swordfish campaigns.

  • The “Best Spanish Ship Built in 2012” award was granted to Zamakona Yards

    On Thursday October 24, the Association of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers in Spain (AINE) handed over the award for Best Spanish ship built in 2012 to Zamakona Yards. The event took place as part of the 52nd Congress of Naval Engineering and Maritime Industry for the year 2013, under the theme “Engineers and Engineering. The sea as an opportunity”.

     

    Our President Mr. Pedro Garaygordobil received the reward from Mr. Luis Vilches Collado, Dean – President of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers in Spain. The award certifies that the ship ESVAGT AURORA is the Best Spanish ship built in 2012. The event took place at a gala dinner held at the Club de Campo in Madrid.

     

    Zamakona Yards won the final at Metalships & Docks with the vessel North Ocean 105 and Armón Vigo shipyard with the ship Angeles Alvariño.

     

    The shipowner is the company Esvagt AS, owned by the Danish multinational AP Møller – Mærsk. ESVAGT AURORA’s primary mission is to provide immediate assistance to emergency situations and to provide support to deep sea operations. The ship is specially adapted to service in adverse weather conditions in the Barents Sea.

     

    The vessel incorporates the latest cutting-edge technological developments for the launch and recovery of rescue boats, de-icing equipment to prevent accumulation on deck as well as equipment for pollution control. It meets the highest standards required by the Norwegian authorities for this type of vessels.

     

    With this award, Zamakona Yards is positioned as market leader in Spain and Europe manufacturing offshore vessels.

  • Zamakona Yards delivers the “RONJA POLARIS” to Sølvstrans

    Zamakona Yards delivers the Live Fish Carrier RONJA POLARIS to Sølvtrans AS at the shipyard in Bilbao – Spain to the satisfaction to the Owners and the Norwegian Regulatory bodies for food transportation. This ship is the first of the two sister vessels.

     

    Mr Roger CEO of Sølvtrans AS said on delivery of the vessel: “the ship´s construction quality is high and I am satisfied with the shipyard”.

     

    The ship is specialized to transport live fish as salmon, trout, smolts and other farmed species. The design has been made by Rolls Royce Marine with the collaboration with the Owner and the Shipyard and she incorporates the new technologies in the in the transport of live fish.

     

    The cargo tanks has been designed in close cooperation with Sølvtrans and MMC so that the water circulation is ensured throughout the interior of the tank for which the system has been validated by rigorous CFD studies attesting adequate water circulation inside the wells in any navigation condition. This has a direct impact on reducing mortality of live fish and the quality end. The ship comply with the new requirements about the environmental regulations to be in force in 2016.

     

    The RONJA POLARIS has an overall length of 75,80 m and a cargo capacity of 3200 cu.m. in three well. The propulsion is diesel electric with two electric motors of 1500 ekW each.

  • Swire Pacific Offshore repairs in the Zamakona Yards

    For the past weeks, among the relevant jobs performed at Zamakona Yards in Canary Islands, there was the docking of the Pacific Wyvern.

     

    Pacific Wyvern is 68.9 m long AHTS Vessel that operates on the western coast of Africa. The vessel belongs to Singapore-based company Swire Pacific, that it is one of the leading marine service providers to the oil and gas industry. It operates more than 75 offshore support vessels which include a mix of anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessels, platform supply vessels (PSV), ice breaking supply vessels (IBSV), anchor handling tugs (AHT), and seismic survey vessels, and windfarm installation vessels. SPO and its subsidiaries are fully equipped to support a wide range of offshore activities, including drilling, production, exploration, pipe-lay, subsea construction seismic, salvage and environmental response requirements, as well as windfarm installation and support.

     

    The works performed included cleaning, painting, grit blasting of the hull, cathodic protection, reconditioning and repairing the propeller, electrical works, thruster works, main engines general overhaul, rudder works, deck machinery repairs and rescue boat and crane 5 years inspection. Some minor jobs including valves, piping, chain cable, anchors …. were also included.

  • Tananger Offshore repairs in the Zamakona Yards in Canary Islands

    For the past weeks, among the relevant jobs performed at Zamakona Yards in Canary Islands, there was the docking of the OSV Guard Celena.

     

    Guard Celena is 53.8m long Offshore Supply Vessel that operates on the western coast of Africa. The vessel belongs to norwegian company Tananger Offshore AS, that it provides support vessels for offshore seismic jobs and stand-by vessels for offshore installations.

     

    The works performed included painting of the hull, cathodic protection, reconditioning and repairing the propeller, main engines general overhaul, rudder works and deck machinery repairs. Some minor jobs including valves, piping, chain cable, anchors …. were also included.

  • Launching the tuna fisher and freezer IZARO

    On Saturday, September 7 , the launching of IZARO was held at the premises of Zamakona Yards in Bilbao. This vessel is a tuna freezer of 1,900 m3 and belongs to the Echebastar Group. The investment is 30 million Euros and the delivery is scheduled for January 2014.

     

    This is the first ship of a new generation of tuna fishers, designed and developed by the Naval Engineering Department. Cintranaval – Defcar SL in cooperation with Echebastar. The ship is designed for tuna fishing by the system to purse seine of fishing grounds in the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific ocean. The vessel has a single controllable propeller and 20 tanks for freezing and conservation of tuna. Four of them will be used for ultra freezing.

     

    Fish will be held in tanks and by a system of immersion in brine, the tuna will subsequently be preserved dry frozen in the same tank . To facilitate fishing operations an onboard passive stabilization system is installed. The vessel will have accommodations for 40 people as indicated on the General Arrangement Plan. It will also have nursing for three.

  • Launching of the ship Ocean Osprey in Pasajes

    Last August 21st, Zamakona Yards Group successfully completed the launching of the ship “Ocean Osprey” at its facilities in Pasajes (northern Spain). The ship is the first delivery of three that Zamakona has signed with the Norwegian shipping company Atlantic Offshore AS. The ship’s main mission will be to provide immediate attention to emergency situations on oil rigs, being specially adapted to the harsh conditions of the North Sea. There, the vessel will start operations for the oil company Shell in the beginning of 2014.

     

    The ship under construction in Pasajes is a Field Support Vessel (FSV) with HY820 Havyard design. With an estimated price of 25 million Euros, the vessel incorporates the latest technologies including deck systems for towing operations with a pulling capacity of 65 tons. With a length of 66.80 meters and a beam of 16 meters it is able to rescue 300 people. It has 2 MAN main engines with a power of 1930 kW each.

  • ZAMAKONA YARDS with the assistance by MMC promotes the RONJA POLARIS at AQUANOR 13

    Last week, ZamakonaYards participated in the AQUANOR 2013 fair. It is an event organized by the Nor-Fishing Foundation, created in 1992 by the Fishing Ministry in Norway. It is held every two years in the Norwegian city of Trondheim. This event brings together the leading companies from Europe and South America involved in Aquaculture.

     

    On Wednesday 14, ZamakonaYards together with the MMC Group AS made ​​a presentation for several wellboat shipowners. Both companies held an exhibition, as well as presented the joint construction project elaborated for Solvtrans AS. The Ronja Polaris ship, a vessel used for transporting live fish. The wellboat measures 75.80 meters and is 16 meters wide. It has capacity for 11 crewmembers and has two Rolls Royce main engines.

     

    Next day, a get-together dinner was held together with MMC AS and Sovtrans AS. A nice time was spent in the presence of LEIF GJELSETH, CEO of MMC AS, FRODE BAADE, Operations Manager at Solvtrans AS and VICTOR VARGAS, CEO of Solvtrans CHILE SA among others.

  • Repairs in our yard in Pasajes, Spain

    For the past months, among the relevant jobs performed at ZAMAKONA Yards in PASAJES, there are the docking of the tug JOAQUIM RUYRA and the general cargo vessel MUROS.

     

    JOAQUIM RUYRA is 26 m long Aquamaster Tractor Tug and achieving a bollard pull of 46 t. The vessel belongs to REMOLQUES Y SERVICIOS MARITIMOS (REYSER), one of the major tug operators in Spain, and is based in the harbor of SANTANDER. The works performed included hull painted, tank disposal and washing, and the main engines general overhaul together with the azimuthal propellers from SCHOTTEL. Some minor jobs including box cooler cleaning, piping… were also included. This is the 5th vessel from REYSER to be docked this year in ZAMAKONA PASAIA. This confirms the confidence given in ZAMAKONA YARDS, but also it’s capability.

     

    The vessel MUROS is a 90 x 14,40 m general cargo vessel belonging to NAVIERA MURUETA. MURUETA is a well established Client of ZAMAKONA Yards, and uses to dock whenever possible the vessels in PASAJES now for more than 5 years. The works performed were mainly hull paint, hatch cover repairs with special care on the seals, rudder repair and some minor works on valves, steel work and mechanical parts.

     

    In May in the port of BILBAO, the recently delivered RORO link span Nr 7, built by ZAMAKONA in 2012, suffered a damage while the ferry departed. The ferry slightly hit the pontoon and pushed the complete link spam back of a few cm. The foundations on shore were damaged, counter weight devices bent, and the electrical supply pulled away, so that the ramp could no longer be operated. Within 24 h ZAMAKONA mobilized 2 heavy lift cranes to lose the link spam from the pontoon and start a provisional repair. After 12 days work, the ramp came back into operation.
