  • Zamakona Yards and Semco Maritime establish strategic alliance

Zamakona Yards has entered into a strategic partnership with Semco Maritime to strengthen operations at Las Palmas Shipyard, creating a hub dedicated to offshore and marine industry projects in the Atlantic.

The partnership is designed to serve rig owners, offshore operators and special vessel clients seeking efficient, cost-effective and reliable project execution from a strategically located location. Operations at Las Palmas Shipyard have already commenced.

Las Palmas Shipyard is located at the very heart of the Atlantic and brings together more than 50 years of experience in the energy and marine industries. By combining Semco Maritime’s expertise in complex project integration and execution with Zamakona’s long-standing marine heritage and shipyard capabilities, we are creating a unique alliance capable of delivering world-class solutions directly at the quayside,” says Nikolaj Vejlgaard, Senior Vice President, Rig and Marine at Semco Maritime.

The shipyard is ideally positioned to support offshore operations across the Atlantic, West Africa and Europe. The facilities include deep-water quaysides with depths of up to 22 metres, capable of accommodating the largest rigs and offshore vessels.

Las Palmas Shipyard offers more than 650 metres of continuous quayside with shore power, 15,000 square metres of outdoor storage and 4,000 square metres of indoor workshops and office facilities.

The site also includes a dedicated offshore workshop with significant heavy lifting capacity, including two 50-ton overhead cranes and three 5-ton overhead cranes, as well as modern service areas with 11-metre hook height and large access doors. This infrastructure enables the efficient execution of complex projects such as rig upgrades, life extension programmes, vessel modernisations and large-scale offshore modifications.

At Zamakona we bring decades of experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, conversions, drydock services and afloat repair solutions. We provide reliable services on a 24/7 basis and offer 650 metres of exclusive wet-docking quayside in Las Palmas for afloat repairs. Through this alliance we will complement our capabilities with Semco Maritime’s strong expertise in engineering, structured project management and technical excellence,” says Eduardo Gil, Commercial Director of Zamakona Yards.

Las Palmas Shipyard will provide integrated solutions covering rig upgrades and life extension programmes, vessel repair and modernisation, and engineering, fabrication and installation services. The site will also deliver upgrades in electrical, automation and safety systems as well as logistics and supply chain coordination.

Together, the two companies create a strong execution platform in Las Palmas, strengthening their ability to attract offshore and marine activity to the region while offering clients a reliable partner capable of delivering complex projects safely, efficiently and competitively.

  • Classifying Offshore Support Vessels (OSVs)

As marine resource development is moving further offshore and into deep sea regions, there is an increasing demand for multi-purpose offshore support vessels, capable of not only transporting cargo to and from offshore floating facilities, but also covering mooring, installation, and fire fighting operations in a wide variety of offshore environments.

All these matters require new generation offshore support vessels, generally more technically-advanced and with special features. OSV vessels are playing a vital role in different fields, including maintaining and supplying offshore oil and gas operations.
