  • ZAMAKONA YARDS with the assistance by MMC promotes the RONJA POLARIS at AQUANOR 13

    Last week, ZamakonaYards participated in the AQUANOR 2013 fair. It is an event organized by the Nor-Fishing Foundation, created in 1992 by the Fishing Ministry in Norway. It is held every two years in the Norwegian city of Trondheim. This event brings together the leading companies from Europe and South America involved in Aquaculture.

     

    On Wednesday 14, ZamakonaYards together with the MMC Group AS made ​​a presentation for several wellboat shipowners. Both companies held an exhibition, as well as presented the joint construction project elaborated for Solvtrans AS. The Ronja Polaris ship, a vessel used for transporting live fish. The wellboat measures 75.80 meters and is 16 meters wide. It has capacity for 11 crewmembers and has two Rolls Royce main engines.

     

    Next day, a get-together dinner was held together with MMC AS and Sovtrans AS. A nice time was spent in the presence of LEIF GJELSETH, CEO of MMC AS, FRODE BAADE, Operations Manager at Solvtrans AS and VICTOR VARGAS, CEO of Solvtrans CHILE SA among others.

  • Offshore Conference success organized by Zamakona Yards in the Port of Las Palmas

    Zamakona Yards organized a lecture-conference meeting focused on the offshore Oil & Gas Market in West Africa in cooperation with the Naval Repairers Association (RNA) on Monday the 6th of May.

     

    Our Group is aware of the strategic importance of this booming industry has to the port of Las Palmas and the great challenges ship repair industry will face in the coming years. The goal is for the Port of La Luz and Las Palmas to achieve a leading position serving this emerging market.

     

    The presentation was given by Mr. Adolfo Marrodán, Naval Mechanical Engineer with an MBA in Shipping and Ports, who has extensive industry experience and has spent most of his professional work in West Africa.

     

    The event was held in the auditorium of the Port Authority, with the presence of Mr. Luis Ibarra (President of the Port Authority of Las Palmas) and Mr. Borja Garaygordóbil (Deputy Director of Zamakona Yards in the Canary Islands).

     

    The conference was attended by over 70 people from major ship repair companies within the sector in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria.

     

    The program addressed various topics such as: – The history of offshore business – Sector requirements to work as providers of products and services. – General current situation overview of the oil sector today (Upstream, midstream and downstream) and future prospects globally and in Africa. – Main players in the niche offshore upstream sector. – Offshore sector impact on the maritime economy and on upstream. – Analysis of companies involved in the sector – Legal and regulatory aspects.

  • ZAMAKONA SPONSORS FIRST NATIONAL TUNA CONGRESS IN SPAIN

    Zamakona Yards, along with others companies, will sponsor the celebration of the first conference organized by the Spanish tuna industry. We have vast experience in the construction of Fishing Vessels. Today, we are building a Live Fish Carrier for Solvtrans Rederi and a Tuna Purse Seiner Vessel for Echebastar Fleet.

     

    Miguel Arias Cañete, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Environment will chair the inauguration of the first major National Congress of Spanish tuna industry which will take place in Madrid on 7th and 8th November. The event will address the challenges of the industry, both fishing and canning, from a scientific, technology, environmental, nutritional and historical perspective for highlighting its important economic and social dimensions.

     

    The scientific coordinator of the meeting is José Luis Cort, researcher at IEO. Other prestigious international scientists like Victor Restrepo at the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF) or Joshua Santiago, president of the Scientific Committee of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) will also participate. As well as the academic presence, representatives of leading companies and business associations linked to the industry will also attend (INTERATUN, OPAGAC, ANABAC-OPTUC, ANFACO-CECOPESCA and FEICOPESCA).

     

    The Spanish tuna industry represents an annual economic volume of nearly 1,120 million euros, provides 18,600 direct jobs and 43,600 indirect and represents 70% and 67% of the activities of tuna fishing and canning in Europe. The activity is concentrated in Galicia and the Basque Country, which represent together 97% of the total.

     

    The congress will be relate about history of tuna fishing and canning industry, sustainability in tuna fishing and processing, the socioeconomic impact of the tuna sector in Spain, nutritional and healthy consumption of canned tuna, the internationalization of Spanish tuna sector, the R&D+i in the tuna industry and about the prospects and challenges of future.

    The Interprofessional Organization of Tuna (INTERATUN) is the first association formally established and recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment in the field of fisheries.

     

    INTERATUN includes tuna vessel owners and the processing industry and marketing of tuna, being represented in it others organizations, ANABAC-OPTUC and OPAGAC as represents of fishery industry and ANFACO and FEICOPESCA as processing and marketing industry.

     

    Since INTERATUN started business in 2001, this organization has joined the efforts of freezer tuna fleet and the processing industry and marketing of tuna to defend common sectoral interests.
