    New drydocking of the vessel JUAN DE LA COSA

    ASTILLEROS ZAMAKONA PASAIA S.L., finished last week the repair and maintenance services on drydock of the sanitary vessel of salvage and maritime assistance “JUAN DE LA COSA” of the SOCIAL INSTITUTE OF THE NAVY.

     

    The vessel of 75mts LOA and 14 mts of breadth, has needed several works of repair and general maintenance related to the requirements of this kind of vessel activities indicated by the Captainship and Classification Society, as well as some check of the main equipment of the vessel, as azimuth propellers, shaft, or stabilizer fins.

     

    Juan de La CosaIt’s to be pointed out the full dissasembly of the propellers under the surveyance of the equipment maker’s technicians Wartsila.

     

    The elastic chocks of the main engines have been also changed and the whole shaft lines have been aligned again.

     

    Finally, other scheduled maintenance and corrective tasks have been made out on the structure, piping and other equipment.

     

    The relationship of our shipyards with this vessel through the years has been a constant. With this one, they already are 8 times that a vessel of the SOCIAL INSTITUTE OF THE NAVY contrates our services of drydocking and maintenance, this time at our shipyard of Pasaia, and we want to express them from these lines our gratitude for entrusting us. We hope to be able to provide them with this service again as well as the rest of their fleet.

     

    The works have been made out in strait collaboration with the technical advisory of the owner BILBAO PLAZA MARITIMA SHIPPING, S.L. and we want to thank to their technicians their cooperation and professionalism along these weeks of intense activity.

     

    ASTILLEROS ZAMAKONA PASAIA S.L. apart from building vessel of latest generation, makes also repairs and maintenance of vessels, both afloat and on drydock, for this purpose we counts with a floating dock with charge capacity of 4.900 tons for vessels until 100mts of LOA and 23 mts of breadth.

  • Zamakona Shipyard comences repairs on a section of the double roro ramp of the port of Santander

    Our Zamakona Shipyard, located at the Port of Santurce, has recently started the repairs and commissioning of a section of the dry RORO ramp of the Port Authority of Santander.

    This work is part of the larger project being carried out by Acciona Infrastructuras to adapt the Maritime Terminal to the developing needs of transport by sea of the Port of Santander.

    During February the works will be performed in dry-docking including sandblasting, painting the hull and deck, reconditioning the boiler, pipework, cleaning and repair of tanks as well as renewal of the anodes will be carried out.

    Thus Zamakona Yards confirms its commitment to the National Ports providing new construction and maintenance of RORO ramps. Zamakona Yards has built RORO ramps for the ports of Bilbao, Pasajes, Tenerife, Huelva and we are currently finalizing the installation of a ramp 35 meters long and 26 meters wide in the Musel for the Port Authority of Gijón.

  • The new slipway Number 4 with a máximum capacity of 5500 Tons

    Since finishing the adaptation work on our slipway Nº 4 of our REPNAVAL Shipyard at the Port of Las Palmas which can service vessels up to 126 M length and 5500 Tons we haven’t stopped working on vessels which we could not accommodate previously with our limited capacity. Thus, recently, we have drydocked the Vessel “Angel” (before, “Caliope”) of 113 M and 3500 Tons and we are now drydocking the pontoon Koca Yusuf of 92 M length and 27.5 M width. All of which means that the effort and investment we have made w justifiable as shown by the enthusiastic reception and demand of our customers for the drydocking of their vessels.

    The hydraulic workshop, located at our facilities in the Port of Las Palmas is equipped with the latest generation of hydraulic equipment and highly qualified, expert personnel in order to guarantee the best hydraulic installations from 1/4″ to 8” working at pressures from 10 to 690 Bar. The shop also offers Fabrication/Pressing of hoses from 1/8” to 2” (6000 Bars)

  • The Spanish Hospital Ships, “Juan De La Cosa” and “Esperanza Del Mar” repaired in Zamakona Yards

    Recently, we’ve successfully carried out repairs and maintenance simultaneously on the two emblematic government owned hospital ships, Juan De La Cosa and Esperanza Del Mar.

     

    It occurred that the two vessels were repaired simultaneously. The vessel Juan De La Cosa was repaired at Zamakona Pasaia yard at San Sebastian and the Esperanza Del Ma” at our yard, Repnaval, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

     

    Both projects were offered at public bidding and our proposals were the winners. We take great pride in being able to offer our services to these two emblematic vessels which are carrying out such important work in attending to the needs of our fishing men in the areas where they are working.

  • Zamakona Yards launches the tuna-freezer vessel, “Guria” of the Basque company, Nicra 7

    This Friday The 3rd, Zamakona Shipyard of Santurce, belonging to the Zamakona Yards Group, successfully launched the “Guria” an ultimate generation tuna- freezer vessel. The “Guria, which means in Euskera “Ours”, with a length of 81.54 meters, is equipped with a Wartsilla 4000 kw main engine which can deliver a top speed of 16 knots.

     

    This modern tuna vessel has a storage capacity of 1708 M3 in her holds and is equipped with an accommodation for a crew of 28 persons.

     

    Her destination will be to operate in the Atlantic with three other tuna vessels of this prestigious company, the Kurtzio, the Matxikorta and the Albacora.

  • Zamakona Yards takes place in Aqua Nor 2015

    Tomorrow begins the Aqua Nor 2015, the main international event of the aquaculture industry and the largest technology exhibition of this sector in the world.

     

    The fair has been held for more than thirty years in the city of Trondheim, Norway, and will, in this edition, count over 400 exhibitors from all over the world.

     

    Zamakona Yards is well known in the industry as we´ve been the first to build two ships for the transport of live salmon, the Ronja Polaris and the Ronja Huon (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqT0-aZKiEE) for our customer Sølvtrans.

     

    Although we have already taken place in this fair on other occasions, this year we have our own stand. The Zamakona Yards team will be present at stand A2-621.

  • Zamakona Yards delivers “EUSKADI ALAI” the third tuna freezer vessel ordered by the Echebastar Group

    This Saturday, the 25th Astilleros Zamakona belonging to the group Zamakona Yards, will deliver the last generation tuna freezer vessel “EUSKADI ALAI” to the Bermeo Group Echebastar at the maritime cruise station in Getxo, Port of Bilbao.

    The ceremony will happen after its blessing and will be present Mr. Kepa Echevarría (Deputy Director of the Echebastar Group), and Mr. Pedro Garaygordóbil (Zamakona Yards´ President) to preside over the ceremony and act as godmother Mrs. Miren Arantza Gabancho Munitiz, member of the owning company of the tuna vessel.

     

    euskadi_alaiThe event will be attended by representatives of the Basque Government and Central Government of Seychelles, Port of Bilbao, Banking, Consulting, Zamakona Shipyards´ staff, suppliers and customers of the Group and Members and staff of the ship owning company. Later there will be a dinner at the Carlton Hotel in Bilbao to celebrate this important event.

     

    The “Euskadi Alai” is the construction No. 738 from the Santurce Shipyard; it is a new design project with the latest and most modern technology, built to suit the requirements of this Owner of Bermeo. This vessel will join its brothers “Izaro” and “Jai Alai” to perform fishing activities in the Indian Ocean. Like its brothers, this ship has aluminum superstructure and bridge, ultra freezing tunnels at -60 º and has safe areas with anti-piracy media.

     

    euskadi_alaiIt also has a new system of separation of caught fish that throws back to the sea the non-target fish alive with little human presence. This reaffirms the company as leader in the realization of sustainable fisheries and quality. Currently the Echebastar group is in the process of assessment of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) independent organization that certifies sustainable and well managed fisheries worldwide. It is the first Spanish tropical tuna fishery to undergo MSC full assessment.

  • Zamakona Yards signs new construction contract with Danish company, ESVAGT

    Astilleros Zamakona S.A, belonging to our group Zamakona Yards has signed a contract with the owner ESVAGT A.S, a company belonging to the multinational Danish AP Møller-Mærsk.

     

    The vessel will be delivered in the 2nd quarter of 2017 and will have the design and engineering of Havyard Design & Solutions A.S in cooperation with the ship-owner himself and our shipyard. It aims to make the change of crews in emergency assistance to offshore oil platforms, support for the maintenance operations of wind offshore facilities, etc. With 88,40 meters length by 15 meters beam, it will have diesel electric propulsion of last generation that ensures a reduction in fuel consumption around 13% compared to conventional propulsion systems. In addition, for the first time on a vessel of this type, a device consisting saving fuel will be installed in an appendix located at the stern that will be called Hull Vane® to reduce other consumption by 5%. It will have the capacity to accommodate the transfer of up to 76 people housed in individual cabins and have a system of telescopic davits for launching boats working on both sides of the ship.

     

    ESVAGT is a leader in promoting security and support especially in the offshore sector in the North Sea, Barents Sea and surrounding areas. “The current market situation allows us to recognize the friend ship-ownerand collaborator, “says the head of the Zamakona Yards group, Mr. Pedro Garaygordóbil.

     

    This is not the first time we work with this prestigious customer, which we´ve already built three ships, the latter being the “ESVAGT AURORA” in 2012, which won the “Best Spanish Ship Built in 2012”, awarded by the Colegio Oficial de Ingenieros Navales de España.

     

    It is important to note that the owner has awarded this contract to Zamakona having had a strong competition with the European Shipyards frontline.

     

    In the words of our President, Mr. Pedro Garaygordóbil:

    “The construction of this new vessel meets the need of Esvagt to have in its fleet a ship of this nature and serves to strengthen the relationship Zamakonahas with this owner that´s been last for more than 10 years. Astilleros Zamakona, S.A ensuresfrom this contract the workload of our shipyard until 2017 and confirms the confidence that our brand deserves among the largest offshore vessel owners operating in the North Sea. “

     

    The order will bring a workload of 350,000 hours, or what is the same, guaranteed employment for two years for the company itself and for the auxiliary industry that works with it.

     

    Astilleros Zamakona S.A has an extensive list of references on offshore fishing vessels, towing, passage, etc., and it is at the forefront of European shipbuilding.

     

    The Zamakona Yards group also has facilities in Pasaia and Las Palmas De Gran Canaria.
