• Zamakona Yards delivers “EUSKADI ALAI” the third tuna freezer vessel ordered by the Echebastar Group

This Saturday, the 25th Astilleros Zamakona belonging to the group Zamakona Yards, will deliver the last generation tuna freezer vessel “EUSKADI ALAI” to the Bermeo Group Echebastar at the maritime cruise station in Getxo, Port of Bilbao.

The ceremony will happen after its blessing and will be present Mr. Kepa Echevarría (Deputy Director of the Echebastar Group), and Mr. Pedro Garaygordóbil (Zamakona Yards´ President) to preside over the ceremony and act as godmother Mrs. Miren Arantza Gabancho Munitiz, member of the owning company of the tuna vessel.

euskadi_alaiThe event will be attended by representatives of the Basque Government and Central Government of Seychelles, Port of Bilbao, Banking, Consulting, Zamakona Shipyards´ staff, suppliers and customers of the Group and Members and staff of the ship owning company. Later there will be a dinner at the Carlton Hotel in Bilbao to celebrate this important event.

The “Euskadi Alai” is the construction No. 738 from the Santurce Shipyard; it is a new design project with the latest and most modern technology, built to suit the requirements of this Owner of Bermeo. This vessel will join its brothers “Izaro” and “Jai Alai” to perform fishing activities in the Indian Ocean. Like its brothers, this ship has aluminum superstructure and bridge, ultra freezing tunnels at -60 º and has safe areas with anti-piracy media.

euskadi_alaiIt also has a new system of separation of caught fish that throws back to the sea the non-target fish alive with little human presence. This reaffirms the company as leader in the realization of sustainable fisheries and quality. Currently the Echebastar group is in the process of assessment of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) independent organization that certifies sustainable and well managed fisheries worldwide. It is the first Spanish tropical tuna fishery to undergo MSC full assessment.

We would like to take the opportunity to thank the Echebastar Group for their confidence in our group for the renewal of its fleet.
